The facets are thin ceramic shells that cover the front of the teeth. They can provide a limited
correction in the shape, size and colour of the front teeth, but they are less resistant than the
crowns and can only be used in certain cases (non-redevitalized teeth, almost correct axial
positioning, …). They require mild intervention.
Dental facets are therefore generally used in three different
situations.
- To improve the tint of the teeth, dental facets allow to find perfectly white teeth. The
treatment is particularly suitable for patients who have dark teeth from tobacco and coffee or
even stained. While a dental whitening usually allows to gain that 2 or 3 shades the dental
facets allow to find a Hollywood smile
- To improve the shape of natural teeth that may be too small, too short or have suffered trauma
from cracks or breakouts. The dental facets allow in this case to reconstitute a perfect
dentition to allow the patients to find a perfect smile.
- To rectify a slight misalignment of the real teeth in the case of diastemas for example an
unsightly spacing that is generally treated by orthodontics. The dental facets can be placed in
such a way as to hide the gap and thus to correct the alignment of the teeth.
Advantage of dental facets
Dental facets appeal to patients and are offered by more and more practitioners, as it is a solution
that has many advantages.
- The dental facets are made of ceramic and allow to achieve a result that reproduces exactly the
appearance of a real tooth.
- Dental facets can be placed on a living tooth, which helps preserve dental capital.
- Dental facets have a long life and cannot be stained.
Steps to follow for dental veneers
- The installation of dental facets is an intervention that can be performed in one or two
sessions if it is a matter of masking a defect by posing only one or two dental facets.
- If it is a more complex procedure that will have the objective of equipping all the teeth of a
mandible or jaw the dental practitioner will then begin by performing a dental mask that will
allow to properly validate the project and the final rendering.
